A 31-year-old American citizen from California lost his life this weekend after becoming caught in a violent confrontation between Mexican military forces and cartel gunmen in Baja California Sur.
The incident occurred Saturday night on Federal Highway 1 near San José del Cabo, where the victim was traveling when he found himself in the midst of an armed engagement. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries but succumbed to them in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Seven additional individuals sustained injuries during the confrontation. Among the wounded were two Mexican military personnel and five civilians, including a 14-year-old child and a 65-year-old woman who suffered serious leg injuries.
