A White House official confirmed that the U.S. tariff on imports from China is 145% when fentanyl related tariffs are included.

CNBC reported that President Donald Trump increased tariffs against China by 125% in his latest executive order. This is on top of the 20% tariff he had imposed earlier for fentanyl.

The Street reported that the tariffs are Trump’s most aggressive trade escalation. They came after tariffs on Chinese products increased from 104% up to 125%. Beijing responded by imposing a retaliatory 84% tariff on U.S. imports.

CNBC reported that the U.S. raised its tariffs against Chinese goods by 145%. This is the most aggressive trade escalation under Trump’s agenda for his second term.

The administration defends the increasing tariffs against China by saying that they are a way to balance decades of unfair trading practices.

Trump posted on Truth Social Wednesday, “China will at some point realize, hopefully soon, that the days when it ripped off the U.S.A. and other countries is no longer sustainable, or acceptable.”

The 145% tariff is expected to close down many Chinese imports and affect global supply chains. Trump has offered a moratorium of 90 days on any new tariffs imposed by countries that have not retaliated.
