A London court granted Russell Brand conditional bail on Friday, after he appeared in court to face charges of sexual assault and rape involving four women.
Brand, 49, didn’t enter a guilty plea. As he entered Westminster Magistrates’ Court to attend his first hearing after being charged last week, he was surrounded by photographers.
Brand was ordered by Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring to appear at the Central Criminal Court, central London, on 30 May. He was granted bail with the condition that he inform the court of his current residence in either the U.K. He lives in Florida, but is required to appear at all future court dates. He will be sent to prison if he does not.
Brand, wearing an open shirt with jeans, listened attentively as he sat on the dock. He only spoke to confirm his date of birth, his address, and his understanding of his bail conditions.

A man shouted, “Russell Brand, no one is above the law!” as the police attempted to control the chaos.
The comedian, author and “Get Him To The Greek’ actor is facing one count of sexual assault, two counts of oral rape and one count of indecent assault. The alleged crimes took place between 1999-2005 — one at the English seaside resort of Bournemouth, and the others in central London’s Westminster district.
Channel 4 and The Sunday Times, two British media outlets, published in September 2023 the claims of four women that Brand had sexually abused or raped them. The accusers are not identified.
Brand was interviewed by the police regarding these allegations, which he denies.
Brand has denied that he engaged in “nonconsensual activities.” Brand stated in a video that was posted on X shortly after he had been charged that he would welcome the chance to prove his innocence.
Brand is known for his unbridled stand-up routines and his risqué humor. He has also hosted radio and TV shows and written memoirs about his struggles with alcohol and drugs. He has appeared as a star in many Hollywood films and was married briefly to Katy Perry from 2010 to 2012.
Russell Brand has been largely absent from the mainstream media in recent years. However, he has gained a huge following on YouTube with his videos that mix wellness and conspiracy theories. Recently, he announced that he was moving to the United States.
