Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey reported on Tuesday that a Circuit Court judge had ordered the blockage of former President Joe Biden’s plan to forgive student loans.
Missouri and six other GOP states sued the Biden Administration over the Saving on a Valuable Education Plan that would have forgiven up to $500 billion in student loan debt over 10 years, according to a budget estimate by the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School.
The U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, headed by Judge L. Steven Grasz who was appointed during the first term of President Donald Trump, ruled Tuesday that Biden, the former secretary of Education, went “well above this authority” by creating a plan in which loans were forgiven and not repaid.

Bailey stated in a press release, “Joe Biden may be out of office but this precedent will ensure a president cannot force Americans to pay for the Ivy League debts of others.”
In a statement, the Biden White House stated that when Bailey and other Republican attorneys general filed the first lawsuit against the SAVE Plan: “Our Administration continues to aggressively defend SAVE — which has enabled over 8 million borrowers to access lower monthly payment options, including 4.5 million borrowers who had zero-dollar payments each month.”
