An armed individual attacked Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton at a campaign event Sunday afternoon, injuring multiple people before being apprehended by law enforcement at the Canfield Fair in Mahoning County.
The suspect has been booked into the Mahoning County Jail facing two counts of assault and one count of disorderly conduct. According to witness accounts, the individual was armed when he approached the Mahoning County Democratic Party tent, where he knocked volunteers to the ground during the assault.

In a statement released following the attack, the Acton campaign provided details of the incident. “While attending the Canfield Fair, an armed individual lunged at Dr. Acton, injuring multiple people,” the statement read. “Dr. Acton and Eric are grateful for the swift and decisive action of law enforcement and are praying for the recovery of those injured.”
The statement continued with a broader condemnation of political violence. “This kind of violence has no place in Ohio. Dr. Acton will always stand up to the chaos, hate and vitriol that pits us against one another.”
The incident prompted a response from Acton’s Republican opponent in the gubernatorial race, Vivek Ramaswamy, who issued his own statement condemning the attack. “Candidates should be able to meet with voters without having to worry about threats or violence,” Ramaswamy stated. “What happened today is completely unacceptable and has no place in politics, and we hope no one was hurt.”
