A senior official revealed to the Daily Caller that the Trump administration has frozen $510 million of federal funds for Brown University pending an investigation into the Ivy League institution’s response to antisemitism on campus and its implementation policies for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In February, the Department of Education, which includes Brown University, warned 60 institutions of higher education that they would face action if they “failed to fulfill their obligations as per Title VI of Civil Rights Act to protect Jewish student on campus.”

Brown is under federal surveillance following a civil rights investigation and an agreement with the Department.

A Daily Caller official reported that the Brown University grant freeze was a follow-up to the earlier decision to stop funding Princeton University with $210 million due to a similar federal investigation.

The Department is disappointed that Jewish students at top-tier U.S. universities continue to be concerned about their safety despite the antisemitic riots that have disrupted campus activities for over a year. In her letter from February, Education Secretary Linda McMahon said that university leaders “must do better”.

The U.S. taxpayers fund huge public investments in colleges and universities. This support is a privilege, and it’s contingent upon adhering to federal antidiscrimination law.”

The investigation into Princeton is a result of a complaint that was filed during the Biden Administration.

Biden’s Department of Education launched a civil rights investigation in 2024 after Zachary Marschall of Campus Reform alleged that Princeton had failed to adequately respond to antisemitic events on campus. His complaint was centered on a student walkout that took place in 2023 to support Palestinians. During the protest, demonstrators chanted, “Brick by Brick, Wall by Wall, Apartheid must fall.”

Brown joins the growing list of Ivy League Universities under federal scrutiny.

The Trump administration withdrew $175 million earlier this year from the University of Pennsylvania because it allowed men to participate in women’s sports.

The administration also froze $400 million of federal funding for Columbia University. Columbia University later complied with several Education Department requests regarding its handling of anti-Semitism allegations.
