The Metropolitan Police in London has charged actor and comedian Russell Brand with a rape, an oral rape, and indecent abuse, as well as two other counts.
British detectives said that they began investigating the TV star’s case in September 2023, after “receiving several allegations following reporting by Channel 4 Dispatches and The Sunday Times.”
These British media outlets published four women’s claims in September 2023. They claimed that they were sexually abused or raped between 2006 and 2013 by Brand, at the height of his fame.
The women who made the reports continue to be supported by specially trained officers. The Met’s investigations remain open, and detectives invite anyone with information or who is affected by the case to contact police. Metropolitan Police detective superintendent Andy Furphy made this statement on Friday.

In a press release, the police stated that Brand would appear before a London court on May 2 for a preliminary hearing.
London authorities said Brand was not detained because he had been charged by police through a “postal request.”
Bail was granted until the court date.
Brand has, in the past, vehemently denied any allegations of sexual misconduct.
