Donald Trump, a defiant president, took to social media on Friday morning and said that his “policies won’t change,” despite demands for him to stop tariffs against U.S. trading partners.
Trump declared on Wednesday a 10% tax on all imports and increased tariffs on dozens of nations with trade surpluses.
“To the many INVESTORS coming into the United States and investing massive amounts of money, my policies will never change. THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO GET RICH, RICHER THAN EVER BEFORE!” Trump posted a message on Truth Social on Friday morning.
President Trump also addressed China’s announcement on Friday that it would impose a tariff of 34% on all imports from the United States starting April 10. Beijing’s new tariff is the same as the U.S. tariff on Chinese exports of 34% that Trump ordered last week.
“CHINA PLAYED IT WRONG. THEY PANICKED. THE ONE THING THAT THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO DO!” Trump posted.
Trump had previously said that he wanted to free the U.S. from its dependence on foreign manufacturers. He compared this massive economic reshaping to a surgical procedure.
Trump said that the market’s reaction to tariffs was expected. “The patient was very ill. The economy was in a bad state.”
Trump continued, “It underwent an operation. The economy is going to boom. It’s going be amazing.”
