Years ago, the biased media in the United States fought for progressive causes and Democrats. We have seen them censor the Hunter Laptop story, receive Pulitzer Prizes for reporting the Russia Scandal (which was a hoax), and print misinformation about COVID-19, the effectiveness of vaccines, and many other examples.

The White House Correspondents’ Association has been a key player in keeping the traditional media at the top of the DC journalism food-chain. Donald Trump wants to change this, and he is making big moves to reflect the new media landscape in the country.

You can already hear liberal journalists crying:

In the coming weeks, the White House will impose its seating plan for reporters in the room of the White House Correspondents’ Association. This function was previously managed by reporters through the White House Correspondents’ Association.

Why it’s important: This is the latest, but not likely the last, effort made by the White House to influence who covers President Trump. White House officials have made it clear, both in public and privately, that they want to change decades-old traditions of the press corps.

Ari Fleischer, the former press secretary under George W. Bush and Sean Spicer during Trump’s initial term, commented:

“Journalists should not make the decision about who sits in seats provided by taxpayers in government buildings. The press secretary should make the decision, as it was until 2006.”

Why is seating so important? It gives you an enormous advantage:

Backstory: The prominent seats in the James S. Brady Press Room are highly sought after because it is easier to get the attention of the press secretary to ask difficult and probing questions. These correspondents are more likely to have their interactions shown on television.

In February, the White House started designating the pool reporters that accompany Trump to tight spaces such as the Oval Office or Air Force One – another function that the WHCA controlled for generations. WHCA responded: “In a country that is free, leaders cannot choose their own media corps.”

The White House already frightened members of the traditional media in February by deciding which journalists would get the coveted “press pool” slots. These are given to journalists who cover the president when there is a space constraint or travel with him. As we reported, the move removed that power from WHCA.

Trump is changing the rules in many ways. His shaking up the DC journalistic cesspool will be good for Americans. The corporate media shouldn’t decide who has the best access to President Trump. They’ve shown themselves to be hopelessly biased and unreliable.

You can expect to hear a lot of shrieking from outlets such as the New York Times and the Washington Post.
