The executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Tuesday prohibits the practice of child gender transition care.
The order states: “Across the nation, medical professionals are mutilating and sterilizing an increasing number of impressionable kids under the radical and false belief that adults can alter a child’s sexual orientation through a series of irreversible medical procedures. This dangerous trend is a stain in the history of our nation and must be stopped.”
It states: “Accordingly it is the United States’ policy that it will not sponsor, fund, promote, help, or support a so-called “transition” of a child to a different sex and that it will rigorously enforce all laws prohibiting or limiting these destructive, life-altering practices.”
According to the document, this order applies to those who are younger than 19.
The order refers to “chemical and Surgical Mutilation”, which is “the use or puberty-blocking drugs to delay or prevent the normal progression of puberty for an individual who doesn’t identify with his or her gender” and “the use of sex hormones such as androgen blocks, estrogen, testosterone, progesterone or androgen to align the physical appearance of an individual to an identity other than his or her sex.”

This includes “surgical procedures” that aim to change an individual’s appearance to match a different identity than his or her gender or to remove or alter an individual’s sexual organs to reduce or destroy their biological functions.
The executive order states, “The harm caused to children through chemical and surgical mutilation is cloaked in medical necessity” as a result of the guidance provided by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, which, according to the administration, “lacks science integrity.”
The Health and Human Services Secretary is tasked with publishing a “review of existing literature” on “best practices for promoting the health of children who present with gender confusion or dysphoria.
Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) issued a statement Tuesday afternoon in support of President Obama’s executive order. He said, “It was pure lunacy to allow kids to receive gender-affirming care.”
Tuberville stated, “We know that gender-affirming care is anything but caring. There’s a good reason why it’s against the law for children to purchase alcohol, lottery tickets, or join the military. It is utter insanity to allow our children, whose brains have not fully developed, to undergo an irreversible and life-altering procedure. It’s not about politics, it’s about good and bad. I’m grateful for President Trump’s commonsense leadership in ending this barbaric act in our country.”
