The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office reported that authorities searching for Megan Trussell, a missing University of Colorado Boulder Student who was last seen in Boulder Canyon on February 9, recovered a body “in difficult terrain” within Boulder Canyon.

The sheriff’s department said in a Saturday statement that the name of the decedent would not be released until identification was confirmed and notified of the next of kin. The Boulder County Coroner’s Office is also responsible for determining the cause and manner of death.

The report added that the decedent had been found in a difficult-to-reach area, which required a technical rescue including rappelling. The City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks rangers reported the body to the sheriff’s department at 10:41 am on Saturday.

The office stated that “Boulder Canyon Drive has been temporarily closed to give investigators access for them to retrieve the deceased, conduct an investigation, and to ensure the safety of the first responders who work in the area because of the hazardous road conditions caused by the weather,”

According to the University of Colorado Boulder Police Department, Trussell last appeared in her residence wearing a dark-colored jacket and yoga pants, as well as white platform sneakers. Campus police are working with local, federal, and state law enforcement agencies to locate Trussell.
