The devastating floods that struck Texas over the Independence Day weekend continue to yield tragic discoveries. Governor Greg Abbott has confirmed the recovery of a woman’s body in the Kerrville area, previously listed among the missing.
The death toll from this catastrophic event has now reached at least 136 souls. This figure includes a heartbreaking loss of dozens of young girls from Camp Mystic along the Guadalupe River. The magnitude of this disaster cannot be overstated.
Four individuals remain unaccounted for. Governor Abbott reports that two of these missing persons are from Kerr County, a man and, in the Governor’s words, “a little girl from Camp Mystic.” It’s worth noting that officials in Kerr County have revised their initial estimate of over 100 missing persons significantly downward.

This tragedy extends beyond Kerr County. In Burnet County, the Marble Falls community mourns Fire Chief Michael Phillips, who remains missing. Despite the absence of his remains, the town has held a memorial service – a testament to the impact of his presumed loss.
Travis County authorities are working to identify a body recovered on July 16, which may be that of the county’s sole remaining missing person. This process underscores the painstaking nature of disaster recovery efforts.
As Governor Abbott stated, “Our search continues.” These words encapsulate the determination of rescue teams and the hope of affected families. The significance of this ongoing effort should not be overlooked.
