A comprehensive reexamination of cellphone records and surveillance footage has resulted in the arrest of an Orlando man in connection with the 2011 disappearance and suspected murder of his former fiancée, according to court documents made public this week.

Dale Smith Jr., 55, was taken into custody on October 14 and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Michelle Parker, whose remains have never been recovered. The arrest comes more than thirteen years after Parker vanished on November 17, 2011, the same day she and Smith appeared on the syndicated television program “The People’s Court” to resolve a dispute over an engagement ring.

Parker was 33 years old at the time of her disappearance. She and Smith, then 40, shared custody of twin children. The former couple had traveled to tape the television appearance to settle a disagreement over a $5,000 engagement ring that Parker had allegedly discarded from a balcony. The presiding judge determined both parties bore responsibility and ordered them to split the cost of the ring’s value.

According to the arrest warrant affidavit, Smith maintained that Parker dropped their children at his residence following the taping and departed approximately ten minutes later. However, surveillance camera footage contradicts this account, indicating Parker’s vehicle remained at Smith’s building for at least one hour.

The evidence shows Parker arrived at Smith’s residence at approximately 3:18 in the afternoon. Cellphone location data reveals that both Parker’s and Smith’s phones left his home together around 4:18 p.m. and continued traveling westward. This movement pattern directly contradicted Parker’s stated intentions for that afternoon.

Parker had planned to travel north to collect her eldest son, who was waiting for her. Her brother, Dustin Erickson, sent her a text message that afternoon inquiring about her whereabouts. A response from Parker’s phone indicated she was at “Waterford,” the local designation for Waterford Lakes Town Center, a shopping mall located approximately twelve miles northeast of Smith’s residence.

The critical detail that investigators emphasized was this: Parker’s cellphone never traveled east or north toward the Waterford Lakes area. According to Erickson’s statement to authorities, his sister had no reason to mislead him about her location.

Smith previously stated he had no knowledge of Parker’s destination after she left his home with their children. He suggested to investigators that she might have been avoiding public attention following the broadcast of their television appearance. Smith claimed he wanted Parker to return safely for the sake of their children. Yet phone records demonstrate he never attempted to call or send messages to her after November 17, 2011.

Authorities noted that Smith has a documented history of domestic violence. Investigators interviewed another former fiancée, who reported Smith had physically assaulted her through strangulation during their relationship. She further stated that Smith had threatened to kill both her and her father on multiple occasions.

The case remained unsolved for over a decade until investigators conducted a fresh analysis of the digital evidence. The newly unsealed court documents reveal the detailed timeline that forms the basis of the murder charge against Smith.

Parker’s body has not been located, and the investigation continues.
