Jamie Foxx finally shares details about his near-death 2023 experience in his “Jamie Foxx What Had Happened Was” comedy special.
Foxx was admitted to the hospital in Atlanta in April 2023, while filming for a movie. Corinne, Foxx’s daughter, posted on social media at the time that the comedian “experienced a health complication.” Fox later said that his daughter, his sister Diedra Dixon, and medical staff saved his life. He said that he didn’t remember nearly three weeks of his life following the unspecified scare.
Foxx revealed in his Netflix special that he suffered a brain bleeding that caused a stroke. He claimed to have been in a coma for 20 days and that his condition was so serious that his family traveled from all over the world to be at his bedside.

Foxx stated, “I’ve been to hell and back.”
Foxx stated that he was in a wheelchair when he awoke from his coma and could not walk. He said that he was forced to relearn how to do basic tasks and depend on nurses for his shower. The doctors told him that a full recovery was possible but would be a long and difficult process.
Foxx demonstrated how successful his recovery was during the special. He danced, sang, and played piano. His family and his faith helped him to heal.
Gayle King, co-host of “CBS Mornings”, attended one of the three tapings for Foxx’s Special. King told Foxx that he appeared to be “in fine shape” at the time of the taping. She was happy he could tell his story.
King remembered that “he did three concerts in Atlanta, with a full audience.” “Nobody revealed what happened because everyone wanted Jamie to explain it in his own words.”
