Police say that a hospital employee in Troy, Michigan shot his co-worker several times at the parking garage of the building on Thursday in a “targeted” attack.

According to Troy Police Department Lt. Ben Hancock, the employee was hit twice in the upper arm by the suspect who fired five shots from a handgun outside Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital. Hancock also said that the victim’s car was struck.

The victim, a 25-year-old man from Troy, is still alive and stable.

Troy Police Department chief Josh Jones told a Thursday press conference that the victim and suspect were once friends but had a fallout at some point.

Police said that the suspect fled from the scene and was arrested at a Troy residence. The suspect surrendered to police without incident after he was called by phone.

Officials haven’t revealed the identity or the suspect.

According to police, the incident occurred on Thursday morning at around 7 am local time. The suspect was taken into custody two hours later.

“A victim is receiving medical attention at the emergency department.” At this time, patients with scheduled services should not visit the hospital. Patients can call the department directly where they had an appointment for service,” Corewell Health stated in a press release.

Cornwell Health reported that the hospital was immediately placed on lockdown. Police say that the hospital is currently resuming its normal operations.
