The Department of Health and Human Services, under the leadership of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., announced on Tuesday that the Food and Drug Administration has launched Operation Stork Speed in order to “ensure ongoing quality, safety and nutritional adequacy of the domestic infant-formula supply”.
This initiative will include updating the nutrient standards that haven’t been updated since 1998, increasing testing for heavy metals and contaminants, encouraging companies to create new infant formulas, and promoting transparency by “clearer labeling” and consumer updates.

The FDA and the National Institutes of Health will collaborate to study the effects of formula feeding to infants, as an alternative to breast milk.
Kennedy stated in a press release, “The FDA will use every resource and authority at its disposal to ensure infant formula products are safe, wholesome, and healthy for families and children who depend on them. In our quest to Make America Healthy Again, it is crucial to help each family and every child start on the right foot from birth.”
