This week, two House Democrats introduced a bill requiring the Department of Government Efficiency (DGE) to submit weekly impact reports to Congress as part of an effort to improve oversight of its activities.

The DOGE Transparency and Accountability Act, introduced by Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.) and Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass. ), would require DOGE to submit weekly reports detailing the legal basis for the department’s decisions, as well as a complete accounting of all dismissals, changes in policy, budget cuts, and data accessed and used by DOGE employees.

Schneider stated in a press release that “we should not let Elon Musk recklessly cut down our federal government with a chainsaw; he has to answer to Congress and give real updates on DOGE’s actions.”

Lynch said, “We can’t let Elon Musk continue to gut agencies responsible for providing American families essential services and needs while President Trump’s version ‘Wreck It Ralph’ is playing.”

Axios reports that the bill will not pass with Republicans controlling the House and Senate. However, it may serve as a sign of Democrats’ attempts to oversee the Trump administration.

Newsweek reported that Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-Calif.) introduced legislation to defund DOGE, which also has little chance of being passed given the widespread GOP backing for the department.
