As Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) continues his tirade in the Senate, news comes out that one of Booker’s employees, Kevin A. Batts, was arrested on Capitol grounds for carrying a pistol without a license. This was just minutes before Booker began his tirade. He was carrying a gun that wasn’t registered.
The U.S. Capitol Police confirmed that Watts was led around the screening area by “a member” of Congress. USCP revealed the arrest of Batts for not passing through the security zone at Hart. Hart is just one block away from the U.S. Capitol.
Yesterday, a member of Congress escorted an IDed staff member through the security screening at the Hart Senate Office Building. Later in the evening, the IDed Staff Member, who was a retired law enforcement officer, informed our officers that he had armed himself outside the Senate Galleries.
Kevin A. Batts of New Jersey, 59 years old, was arrested for carrying a Pistol Without a License. All weapons are prohibited on the Capitol Grounds. This includes retired police officers and those with a permit to carry in another state.
Batts confessed to USCP officers that he had an unlicensed gun in his possession after evading security at the Senate Building office.
Batts is Booker’s friend and assistant for many years. Booker called Batts his “best friend” in a video on Facebook. Batts is a retired Newark Police Officer who has been seen with Booker, the former Newark Mayor, since Booker was elected to the U.S. Senate.

The staff of Sen. Booker have so far played down the arrest. It is likely to keep the arrest from overshadowing Booker’s ongoing, headline-grabbing attacks on the Trump Administration.
“Senator Booker’s office hires retired Newark police officers as New Jersey drivers who often accompany him to events. Jeff Giertz, a Senator Booker’s spokesperson said, “We are trying to understand what happened.”
Since the beginning of the year, at least two incidents occurred in which armed individuals either managed to get past security screenings or were caught trying to bring weapons inside the building. It is not good to have unidentified “Members of Congress” flouting the laws by allowing staffers to carry concealed firearms.
Spartacus won’t be happy that a staffer bungled his blathering, but this is the way Democrats operate today. It makes you wonder how the anti-gun base will react.
