CNN’s Jake Tapper interviewed George Clooney on Tuesday, and he said, “I felt it was my civic duty to ask former President Joe Biden to resign.”

In a “teaser” for his interview with Clooney, which airs on Wednesday, Tapper said it was “brave” of the actor to write an opinion piece for The New York Times dated July 10, late in the presidential race, calling for Biden’s withdrawal and for a new nominee.

“Let’s hear from [Maryland Gov.] Wes Moore and [then-Vice President] Kamala Harris and [Michigan Gov.] Gretchen Whitmer and [California Gov.] Gavin Newsom and [Kentucky Gov.] Andy Beshear and [Illinois Gov.] J.B. Pritzker and others,” Clooney wrote at the time.

After Clooney’s article was published, Biden sent a letter via his X account announcing that he would be dropping out of the presidential race. The announcement was deemed abrupt at the time because it came from a president who insisted on remaining in the race, despite his apparent decline.
