The search for a missing New York grandmother has ended in tragedy after authorities discovered her body near Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police confirmed Friday that they had located the remains of Alisa Goods, a 63-year-old Brooklyn resident who vanished on August 8 while visiting the city. The discovery came Thursday afternoon following a call reporting a body near the airport property.

According to police officials, security camera footage revealed that Goods had fallen down an embankment along Wayne Newton Boulevard, where she collapsed and remained hidden from view of the adjacent roadway. Her body was found in a drainage ditch near a parking structure, a location that had evidently concealed her from passersby for more than a week.

The grim discovery brings a measure of closure to a case that had grown increasingly concerning for Goods’ family. Alana Calloway, the victim’s niece, had reported that her aunt was visiting a friend in Las Vegas and was en route to a pharmacy when she disappeared.

In the days following Goods’ disappearance, the case took a disturbing turn when family members began receiving text messages purportedly from Goods’ phone number requesting financial assistance through bitcoin or CashApp transfers. Law enforcement officials now believe these communications were the work of scammers employing spoofing technology to disguise their identity and exploit the family’s distress.

Investigators indicated at the time that they did not believe Goods was in immediate danger, though the circumstances of these fraudulent messages added complexity to the missing person investigation.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has not yet released an official identification of the remains, which police have described as preliminary. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation and have not been disclosed to the public.

Calloway released a statement Friday expressing the family’s profound grief. “Our hearts are broken,” she said. “Words cannot describe the pain our family is experiencing right now. We just want to thank the public for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers.”

The case serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by travelers in unfamiliar cities and the cruel opportunism of those who exploit family emergencies for financial gain. The drainage ditch location where Goods was found raises questions about infrastructure safety near one of the nation’s busiest airports.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding Goods’ death. The department has not indicated whether they are pursuing any leads related to the fraudulent text messages or whether those communications are believed to be connected to her death.

The investigation remains active as authorities await final identification and determination of the cause of death.
