The esteemed Oktoberfest event in Munich, Germany, has been put on hold due to a bomb threat following a fatal fire incident. The Munich authorities have announced that this event, attracting countless revelers to the southern German city every year, will remain closed until Wednesday afternoon.
Reports from Munich indicate that the bomb threat is connected to an explosive incident in northern Munich. The Theresienwiese, the open space in the west of the city center where Oktoberfest takes place, will stay closed at least until 5:00 p.m., as confirmed by the Munich police. A letter from the individual allegedly responsible for the threat has been sent and is currently being reviewed.

The bomb threat was linked to a fire at a residential building that resulted in one fatality in northern Munich on Wednesday morning. The police and fire department were dispatched to the scene in the Lerchenau region, where they found a burning residential building. Reports indicate that this fire was set deliberately during a family dispute.
The police later discovered explosive devices within the burned building. Special forces have been called in to defuse these explosives. The Munich police have confirmed that the individual found dead at the scene is likely the suspect linked to the explosion.
According to Munich police spokesman Thomas Schelshorn, “A major operation has been underway in Lerchenau since 4:45 a.m. In addition to a burning house, nearby burning cars, and a deceased man at Lerchenau Lake, possibly related to the incident, have been discovered. The evidence suggests that an unspecified explosive threat pertains to Theresienwiese, prompting the police to cordon off and search the Oktoberfest site.
And so, the world-renowned Oktoberfest remains in suspension until further notice. The police do not anticipate the event to resume before 5 p.m.
