A gas leak is suspected in a deadly explosion that occurred in a three-story building in Madrid over the weekend, claiming one life and injuring 25 others, according to emergency services for the Spanish capital.

The body of a man was discovered during a rescue operation, which included search dogs, following the incident on Saturday. The Spanish news agency EFE has reported that firefighters suspect the explosion resulted from a gas leak, but police are still conducting a thorough investigation into the exact cause.
Fire Chief Javier Romero detailed that four individuals were rescued from the rubble after the explosion that happened around 3 p.m. Saturday on the building’s ground floor. The blast resulted in significant damage to a café, a store, and other properties.
