Nashville police reported that a man had escaped after allegedly stabbing to death his estranged spouse outside the elementary school where she worked.

Metro Nashville Police Department reports that Niurka Acevedo (52) was attacked on Monday morning as she was arriving for her custodian position. Police said that the stabbing happened before the students arrived at school.

Police believe that her estranged Husband, Candido Rubio-Perez (54), was waiting for her in a parking lot. After the attack, he fled the scene.

According to the police and school district, a school staff member discovered Alfonso-Acevedo lying in the parking lot. He called 911 after finding him.

Metro Nashville Public Schools released a statement saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim, his friends, as well as the entire Chadwell elementary community, during this difficult time.”

The school district also added that “there is no ongoing danger to the safety of students or staff.”

Rubio-Perez is wanted for criminal homicide, police said.

Crime Stoppers is asking anyone with information on Rubio-Perez’s location to call them at 615-742-7463. Police said that a reward of up to $5,000 was available.
