On Wednesday, Senators Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ), and Joe Manchin(I-WV), former Democrats who had been criticized by their party because they did not eliminate the filibuster, left a final gift for President Joe Biden.
Biden nominated Lauren McFerran for a five-year position on the National Labor Relations Board. This federal agency is dedicated to protecting large unions. Her confirmation would give Democrats control of this body throughout the second term of Donald Trump.
You know what they say about plans.
The Senate blocked Lauren McFerran’s re-nomination to the National Labor Relations Board. This opens the door to Republican control of this board beginning next year, under the new president-elect Trump.
Senators voted by 49 to 50 in opposition to a term of five years for McFerran as the NLRB chair. Sens. Kyrsten S. Sinema, I-Ariz. and Joe Manchin, I-W.Va. voted with nearly every Republican senator to oppose it.
Chuck Schumer, the outgoing majority leader in the New York State Senate (D), was furious about this development. He called it “a direct attack on workers.”
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D.Y.), said, “It’s deeply disappointing and a direct assault on working people. It is also incredibly troubling, that this highly-qualified nominee, who has a track record in protecting worker rights, did not receive the votes.”

Chuck should be taught about reaping and sowing. He and his members of the party trashed Sinema and Manchin. The former had to endure a Democratic Party-backed primary challenge which ultimately led her to decide not to seek reelection. Both were harassed and stalked by left-wing activists for years. Left-wing protesters followed Sinema to the bathroom. Why?
Payback is never kind. Sinema and Manchin have just given us generous help. In November, voters rejected the Democratic Party’s labor agenda. McFerran’s five-year extension would have been an insult to the American public who don’t want special concessions for unions at the expense of everyone else.
This is another example of Democrats playing too much. In their quest for power, the Democrats have given up two previously solid votes to appease those on the left. These chickens are now coming home to roost. I don’t know what Sinema and Manchin will do now that they have left office. But their rejection of the Democrat status quo and preservation of the filibuster has done a great deal of good for the country.
