The Houthis who are supported by Iran claim that at the very least, one person was killed during suspected U.S. aerial strikes around Yemen’s rebel-held capital.

The full extent of the damage or the number of casualties was not immediately known. This attack came after an especially intense night of airstrikes Friday morning compared to other days since March 15th.

Al-Masirah – their satellite news channel – aired footage of broken glass scattered in homes after the explosions. The footage did not reveal the exact target, but it suggested that the bombings were for intelligence or military purposes.

It appears that the new American campaign under President Donald Trump against the Houthis is more extensive than under the former president Joe Biden. The U.S. is now firing on top-ranking personnel instead of just targeting launch sites and bombing cities.

The Houthis, after threatening to resume airstrikes on “Israeli” ships again, because Israel blocked aid into Gaza, launched a new campaign. Other vessels were therefore also targeted.

Between November 2023 and January of this year, Houthis drones and missiles targeted over 100 merchant ships. The Houthis sank 2 vessels, killed 4 sailors and launched attacks on American warships. But none have yet been struck.

After the attacks, they were more visible because of their economic issues. In Yemen, they also cracked down on anyone who was dissenting or working as an aid worker.
