Two fifteen-year-olds, a boy and a girl from Maryland, have been apprehended and indicted for their alleged involvement in the attempted theft and assault of a former DOGE staffer in Washington, D.C.
At approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday on the 1400 block of Swann Street in the northwest section of the district, the suspects confronted the victims who were positioned adjacent to their vehicle. The allegations suggest that the juveniles demanded the victim’s car before resorting to violence.
The D.C. Metropolitan Police reported that it was during this assault that an MPD patrol car arrived on the scene, leading to the assailants’ hasty retreat. The on-scene officers were able to apprehend two suspects.

Reports indicate that the individual assaulted was Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old former DOGE employee, known colloquially as “Big Balls”. He received on-scene medical treatment for his injuries from D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
President Donald Trump has publicized a photograph of the injured Coristine in a post to Truth Social. The President strongly urged the capital city’s leadership to address the escalating crime rate, warning of potential federal intervention if no progress is made.

Coristine, having left DOGE in late June, following former chief Elon Musk’s departure, was photographed by DOGE colleague Marko Elez after the incident, as reported by Politico. Musk has also made a public plea for President Trump to “federalize DC”.
This raises important questions about the safety of our cities and the steps needed to ensure public security.
