According to the Associated Press, on Monday, President-elect Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida had its American flags at half-staff.

The change is just before the end of the 30-day mourning period for President Carter, who died on Dec. 29 at the age of 100.

President Biden ordered the flags to be lowered until the sunset of January 28. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) issued a similar order to his state.

According to the AP, a large flag at Mar-a-Lago was originally lowered to half-staff. It has since been raised.

Trump has expressed his displeasure at the fact flags will be lowered for his inauguration, which takes place within 30 days of Carter’s death.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, on January 3, “The Democrats have a giddy feeling.” They are worried that the beautiful American Flag might be in ‘half-mast,’ during my Inauguration. They are happy and think it is great because, in truth, they don’t care about our country. They are only concerned about themselves.

This is not something that any American would be pleased with. Nobody wants this to happen. Trump said, “Let’s see how it goes,” about the flags lowered during his inauguration.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, the Texas governor ordered that all flags be flown in half-staff during Trump’s second tenure.

In a press statement Abbott said, “While honoring the services of a past president, we also must celebrate the services of the incoming president and a bright future for the United States of America.”

Trump visited Carter at the Capitol Rotunda while he lay in state for Carter’s funeral.

In a release released following Carter’s death, Trump stated that he was “strongly different” from Carter both “philosophically and politically,” but that he acknowledged that the 39th president “truly loved America and all it represents.”
