According to the U.S. Coast Guard, at least three people were killed and two injured when a boat capsized on Staten Island off New York’s coast.

A search and rescue mission has been launched by officials as another person is still missing in the water.

The Coast Guard reported that one of the injured individuals is in critical condition, while the other is stable.

According to officials, the boat flipped before noon Sunday in Ambrose Channel. This is located approximately five miles south of Breezy Point. Breezy Point is a neighborhood on the Rockaway Peninsula of Queens.

The Coast Guard reported that they were alerted at 12:04 pm to a “vessel absorbing water”. Three rescue boats and helicopters were dispatched to the scene.

The New York Police Department said that all five people rescued were taken to a local hospital, where three of them were declared dead.

Officials say that the NYPD, the fire department, and New Jersey State Police are all helping in the multi-agency reaction.

Police said that they are investigating the cause of this boat’s overturning.
