It appears that the Department of Health & Human Services has removed a page that contained a warning about gun violence.
In June 2024, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy declared gun violence a public health crisis in America, urging an evidence-based approach to address the issue and advocating for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines for civilian use.
Murthy said in a release that was issued at the time: “Firearm Violence has caused unimaginable suffering for many Americans and deep grief.”
OSG issued a press release at the time stating at least ten medical organizations including the American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Surgeons, American Public Health Association, and YWCA had written statements in support of the advisory.
The page that contains the advisory displays the message “Page Not Found” at the moment.

The page you requested does not exist at www.hhs.gov. It could be that it has been removed or moved. The address could have been typed incorrectly.
HHS released a statement stating, “The Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of the Surgeon General are in compliance with President Trump’s Executive Order on Protecting Second Amendment Rights. “
Donald Trump signed an executive order last month directing the Attorney General to review all actions by the President and agencies between January 2020 and January 2025 that purported to promote security, but which could have affected Second Amendment rights.
HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said that although he believes in the Second Amendment he wants to know the causes of mass shootings.

Kennedy falsely claimed in a 2023 live stream on X with Elon Mush that there was “tremendous evidence” that people who take antidepressants were more likely to commit school shootings. Previous experts have stated that there are no indications that people with mental illnesses or those taking medication for disorders are more violent.
Gun-related suicides have increased in all age groups from 2012 to 2022, according to Murhty’s advisory. The biggest increase in gun-related suicides was among children aged 10-14.
GIFFORDS is a gun violence prevention organization founded by Gabrielle Giffords. She was a former Congresswoman. GIFFORDS has criticized the Trump Administration for removing this advisory.
Emma Brown, executive director of GIFFORDS stated in a release that President Trump put profits for the gun industry above protecting families and children by removing important public health advice and lifesaving resources. Since 2020, guns have been the number one killer among American children and teenagers. Gun violence has been recognized by non-partisan health professionals as a serious issue in public health for many years.
