President Donald Trump honored the memory of Army 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan during remarks Wednesday at Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia, after flying the fallen soldier’s family aboard Air Force One from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
The president had traveled to Dover earlier in the day to attend the dignified transfer ceremony for four American service members killed in Jordan, including Lieutenant Feehan. During his Georgia appearance, Trump revealed that upon learning the Feehan family would also be traveling to the state, he extended an invitation for them to join him on the presidential aircraft.
“I said, ‘If you want, I’ll give you a ride on Air Force One,'” Trump told the assembled crowd. “Today they were on Air Force One, and it’s quite nice, I must say.”
The president described the family as heartbroken but grateful for the gesture, noting their proximity to the Georgia venue. “They couldn’t believe it,” he said. “They live minutes away. We’re here today.”
Lieutenant Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, was among four service members killed while supporting American operations in Jordan. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 55th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Private Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, was also among those killed. U.S. Central Command announced the deaths Saturday.
At Dover, Trump met with Feehan’s parents, Shari and Stephen, along with his uncle David. The family accompanied the president to Georgia and attended his remarks at Wheeler High School.
Trump explained that he reviews biographical information about fallen service members before each dignified transfer ceremony. He characterized Lieutenant Feehan as an exceptional young officer whose military career showed extraordinary promise.
“Lieutenant Tyler Feehan was a person that was going all the way,” Trump stated. “He was going to be a general. He would have been a general very quickly.”
The dignified transfer at Dover Air Force Base marked a solemn moment as the nation received the remains of Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. These ceremonies represent the military’s formal process of transferring fallen service members from aircraft to awaiting vehicles, conducted with full military honors.
