Authorities confirmed that an incident of shooting occurred in Northeastern Virginia on Tuesday evening. Three people were killed, and three others were injured. There are still one or more gunmen on the loose.
Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Major Elizabeth Scott told reporters that 911 callers reported a shooting at a townhouse in Spotsylvania County around 5:30 pm. It is located just outside Fredericksburg and about 65 miles (105km) southwest of Washington.
She stated that authorities urged the public not to go near the scene and to stay indoors while they investigated.
Scott believes the shooting may have occurred more than once. There were no arrests or public information released about a potential reason.
Scott said, “Dozens upon dozens of police officers were actively searching for criminals and preserving the crime scene. “
Three victims of gunshot wounds were transported to the hospital. The condition and other details about these three people were not immediately available.
According to Scott, the victims were all found outside.
At a press conference held in the evening, she said, “We’ll stay here until our suspects are found.”
Authorities also asked that witnesses send in any video footage that could help the investigation.
Fredericksburg City Public Schools announced on their website on Wednesday that school would start two hours later “in light” of the impact this incident had on our students.
This statement stated: “This delayed opening allows us to prepare staff and our buildings to welcome and support students during this difficult time.”
The district did not provide any additional information.
