At Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a prisoner has managed to escape while in transit.
John Nino, a 20-year-old man under community supervision for second-degree robbery, fled from Washington State Department of Corrections officers at approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Nino, standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 154 pounds, was being returned to Washington after his arrest in New Mexico for failing to report to his community corrections officer.
Nino was last seen wearing a red coat and gray sweatpants, crossing railroad tracks near Highway 99 in the vicinity of the airport. The Department of Corrections and local law enforcement are currently searching for the fugitive.
This is not an isolated occurrence. In May of this year, another inmate, 29-year-old Sedric Stevenson, escaped custody at the same airport. Stevenson evaded capture for 45 days before being apprehended in Kentucky on multiple charges.
This raises important questions about security protocols during prisoner transport. The Washington State Department of Corrections will undoubtedly be reviewing its procedures in light of these events.
Authorities have advised the public not to approach Nino if sighted, but to report any information to the police immediately. The evidence suggests that law enforcement is treating this as a serious manhunt.
