Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s, D-N.Y., decision to end a government shutdown by saying he would vote for a Republican temporary spending bill enraged his Democrat House colleagues.
“Our party needs more of a fighting spirit,” Rep. Chris Deluzio, R-Pa., told The New York Times.
DeLuzio said that he believed the younger generation in the party wanted to fight rather than give up and capitulate to Republicans.

DeLuzio stated that “those of us who are younger or who have been in the Congress for a while don’t have experience from the days when things were more functional.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is furious with Schumer. She says Democrats feel “outrage” over Schumer’s move. Ocasio-Cortez refused to rule out primarying Schumer in an interview with CNN.
“I think it is a huge slap in the face and there is a wide sense of betrayal if things proceed as originally planned,” Ocasio-Cortez told MSNBC.

Schumer has justified his decision, stating that voting for a continuing resolution was the better of two bad options.
Schumer stated, “A government shutdown would be far worse than passing the continuing resolution.”
House Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was also harshly critical of Senate Democrats that supported the continuing resolution.

Pelosi stated in a press release that “Elon Musk and Donald Trump have given the Congress the false choice of a government shut down or a blank cheque, which is a devastating attack on the well-being for working families throughout America.” This false choice, which some people are choosing to accept instead of fighting for what they believe in, is unacceptable.
“I am very proud of the House Democratic Caucus and their unanimous vote against this Bill.” “Democratic senators should pay attention to women.”
