An individual wielding a high-velocity rifle targeted a group of people in Minneapolis earlier today, resulting in one fatality and six injuries. This information comes directly from the Minneapolis Police Department.

According to Police Chief Brian O’Hara, at least one victim in the group was likely the intended target of this alarming attack. This development follows earlier reports that the shooter took advantage of daylight hours to execute this distressing act of violence, before escaping in an unidentified vehicle.

The scene of the shooting was a sidewalk opposite a Catholic high school. The police were alerted to the incident via ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system, which registered approximately 30 rounds of gunfire around 1:30 PM.

Law enforcement officers arrived on scene to discover a man deceased and six others wounded, dispersed between the immediate vicinity and nearby businesses. The evidence suggests a high-velocity rifle was the weapon of choice, given the extent of the injuries and the ShotSpotter data.

Chief O’Hara described the inflicted injuries as “significant,” with the damage to some victims being “unspeakable.” However, the prognosis for the six injured is hopeful, with survival expected for all. The victims are all believed to be adults. The police theory suggests a single shooter was involved and that at least one of the group members was specifically targeted.
