Former U.S. Rep Mia Love (R-Utah) died Sunday, aged 49, her family said.
Love was the first African Republican Woman to be elected to Congress, and the daughter of Haitian immigrants. She “passed peacefully”, surrounded by her family.
In a post on X, Love’s Family said: “With hearts overflowing with gratitude for Mia’s profound impact on our lives we wish to let you know that Mia passed away peacefully today. She was at home, surrounded by her family.”

“Amid a celebration of her life and a flood of joyful memories, Mia quietly slipped the bonds of this world and, true to her words and vision, soared toward heaven,” the family said. “We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayers, condolences, and kind wishes. As we take time to grieve together as a family, we will share details about funeral services and a public celebration of her life in the coming days.”
Love was undergoing treatment to combat brain tumors, but her daughter reported earlier in the month that Love’s cancer no longer responded.
