On Wednesday, two people were confirmed dead following a mid-air collision between two small aircraft at Marana Regional Airport. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, there were two passengers on each aircraft.
According to preliminary information provided by the National Transportation Safety Board, the aircraft collided upwind of runway 12.
According to the NTSB, “The Cessna was able to land without incident; the Lancair hit terrain near the runway 3 and an impact fire followed,” Around 8:30 am local time, the planes collided.

Officials said that the FAA will investigate and the NTSB is sending investigators to the scene. Two more are also on their way.
Marana Regional Airport does not have a functioning ATC control tower. Pilots use a Common Traffic Advisory frequency to communicate their positions to other aircraft. The pilot in charge is responsible for keeping a safe distance between aircraft.
