Former Disney Channel actor Matt Prokop, recognized for his appearance in “High School Musical 3,” has been arrested in Victoria County, Texas, on charges that include possession of child pornography and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The 35-year-old actor was taken into custody on December 24, according to officials at the Victoria County Jail. The charges against Prokop are extensive and serious in nature.

Authorities have confirmed that Prokop faces four misdemeanor charges: one count of violation of bond or protective order, one count of evading arrest or detention, and two counts of resisting arrest, search, or transportation. These charges alone paint a concerning picture of the circumstances surrounding his arrest.

However, the more serious allegations include a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in a case involving dating or family violence. Additionally, Prokop has been charged with second-degree felony possession of child pornography, a charge that carries significant legal consequences under Texas law.

This arrest represents the latest chapter in what has been a troubling trajectory for the former child actor. Years before this incident, serious allegations emerged during Prokop’s relationship with actress Sarah Hyland, known for her role in the television series “Modern Family.”

Hyland publicly accused Prokop of both verbal and physical abuse during their five-year relationship, which concluded in 2014. The actress obtained a restraining order against Prokop at that time, citing a pattern of abusive behavior that made her fear for her safety.

The current charges suggest a pattern of alleged criminal behavior that extends beyond the domestic violence allegations from nearly a decade ago. The inclusion of child pornography charges represents a particularly serious escalation, as such offenses are prosecuted vigorously under both state and federal law.

The aggravated assault charge involving a deadly weapon in a family violence context indicates that authorities believe Prokop may have threatened or harmed someone close to him with a weapon. Texas law treats such offenses as particularly serious, especially when they occur within the context of domestic or dating relationships.

The multiple charges of resisting arrest and evading detention suggest that Prokop did not cooperate with law enforcement during his apprehension. Such charges are often added when suspects actively attempt to flee from or physically resist police officers.

As of this report, Prokop remains in custody at the Victoria County Jail. The legal proceedings ahead will determine the outcome of these serious charges, which collectively could result in substantial prison time if he is convicted.

This case serves as a sobering reminder that fame and early success provide no immunity from the consequences of criminal behavior. The charges are allegations at this stage, and Prokop is entitled to due process under the law. However, the severity and number of the charges paint a deeply troubling picture that will unfold in the Texas court system in the months ahead.
