Authorities in Hawaii are engaged in an active search for a 44-year-old diver, identified as Bryson Higashi, who disappeared in the waters near the island of Kauai on Tuesday.
The Coast Guard Sector Honolulu command center watchstanders reported receiving a distress notification at 7:36 p.m. on Wednesday. The alert was issued by personnel from the Kauai Fire Department, who reported a possible person in the water near Hanalei Bay. This was confirmed by a statement released by the U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday.
The search effort for Higashi involves multiple agencies and resources. Among them are the Coast Guard Station Kauai, Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point, Coast Guard Cutter William Hart, as well as the Kauai Police and Fire Departments, and Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The current weather conditions on the scene of the search, as reported by the U.S. Coast Guard, include 15 mph winds, 2- to 4-foot seas, intermittent showers, and reduced visibility.
Higashi is described as being 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. His truck was found unattended near Hanalei Bay, having been left there for over 24 hours, according to officials.
