Entrepreneur Elon Musk, after recently resigning from his role as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, has been using his X platform to critique President Donald Trump and his administration’s management of the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Since last Wednesday, Musk has been prolific in his postings, sharing criticisms of the administration’s handling of the Epstein files more than 35 times. Even his AI chatbot Grok, which recently secured a $200 million contract with the Trump administration, has been utilized to convey his critique.
The administration’s decision last week not to release any additional Epstein files stirred discontent among Trump’s supporters. This decision contradicted an earlier promise to release more files related to Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender who committed suicide in jail in 2019.

Musk’s onslaught of criticism comes shortly after he made a controversial claim, which he later deleted, that Trump’s name was listed in the Epstein files, suggesting this as a reason for the administration’s reluctance to release further documents.
In a notable post, Musk referred to these actions as “a cover-up (obviously)” and claimed, “so many powerful people want that list suppressed.” He also mocked Trump’s labeling of the matter as the “Epstein Hoax,” with a sarcastic remark about Epstein’s death and Ghislaine Maxwell’s imprisonment.
Musk also criticized Trump’s past behavior, insinuating that his usual tactic of denial and counterclaim will not be successful this time. He further questioned the whereabouts of the promised “Phase 2” of the Epstein files, indicating a photograph of binders labeled “Epstein files: Phase 1” that were distributed at the White House earlier this year.

Musk’s barrage of criticism, however, has not been devoid of controversy. His posts include unfounded assumptions, such as the existence of an Epstein “client list,” thus raising questions about the accuracy of his claims.
Musk, who was the top donor in the 2024 election and instrumental in Trump’s victory, resigned from his role in the administration in May. When asked about Musk’s criticism, the White House directed to Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s comments, who emphasized the president’s ongoing communication with supporters and reiterated their trust in President Trump.
We are witnessing a high-profile clash over the handling of sensitive files, reflecting the societal need for transparency and accountability. This raises important questions about the future handling of such cases and the potential implications for those in power.
