According to authorities, eight people have been killed and another two injured when gunmen opened up on a roadside stand in the north-central part of Mexico.
The shooting occurred late Saturday night, in a commercial district in Apaseo el Grande. This town is in Guanajuato and has been ravaged for years by cartels.
Eight men died just outside the stand, which was selling a traditional type of milk-based fudge. Another man and a woman were wounded in the attack, but there was no immediate report on their condition.
Local media reported two firefighters had been killed. The two firefighters’ deaths have been confirmed by officials.
Videos on social media showed motorcycles parked outside the stand with bodies of men, some of whom appeared to have suffered head injuries.
Apaseo el Grande, and Apaseo el Alto, have all been victims of mass shootings, which experts believe to be linked to the drug cartel wars. There have been multiple mass shootings at bars, clubs, and businesses since 2018.

Gang-related violence has continued after Mexico’s new president Claudia Sheinbaum took office on October 1.
She refused to declare war against cartels and suggested instead a strategy that relied on gathering information to reduce their operational capabilities.
Sheinbaum is adamant about continuing the policy of Andres Manuel Obrador who wanted to tackle crime at its roots by investing in social spending.
