KGKC Telemundo Kansas City reported that a Kansas City sports reporter and anchor died while on assignment to cover the Super Bowl on Wednesday. Police said that a Louisiana woman was arrested for his death after a surveillance video showed her leaving his room.

KGKC stated, “Adan Manzano covered the NFL championship game that will take place in New Orleans this Sunday for Telemundo Kansas City as well as Tico Sports.” The station didn’t give a cause of the death but said that it was cooperating with police during their investigation.

“Adan was a professional, a rising star, and a sports anchor & reporter at KGKC. He exemplified the highest standards of excellence in his job,” KGKC stated, “We will miss Adan, his passion for sports, and his contributions to the community.”

Manzano was only 27 years old.

Danette Colbert was arrested on Thursday and Manzano’s credit card as well as his cell phone, which was missing from the hotel where he was staying, was found at her home in Slidell. This information came out in a press conference held by Kenner police chief Keith Conley.

Conley reported that surveillance video taken from the Comfort Suites Hotel in Kenner near New Orleans, where Manzano stayed, showed Colbert entering Manzano’s room on the morning of Feb. 5 with him and then leaving the room by herself.

Conley pointed out that Colbert has a criminal record that includes two incidents of drugging and stealing a victim.

Conley stated that the only crimes that exist are property crimes, but he did note that additional evidence could lead him to upgrade charges.

Local outlets reported that Manzano’s wife, Ashleigh Boyd, who was a teacher, was killed in a car crash last April. The couple leaves behind their 2-year-old daughter.
