Police say that a 12-year-old girl died after being struck by an unattended vehicle outside her middle school in Seattle. It was a tragic situation.

At a press conference, Seattle Police Department Chief of Patrol Operations Todd Kibbee revealed that the SUV had rolled down about 75 yards on a “slight hill” to the side of Washington Middle School. The SUV then struck the student around 1 p.m.

Kibbee stated, “Preliminarily, we believe the vehicle was reversing because the driver had failed to put it in park completely.”

Kibbee, announcing that this was standard procedure, said: “The person driving the vehicle is being tested for drugs and alcohol.”

Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Brent Jones stated that the school district offers resources to grieving students of Washington Middle School who are in grades 6 through 8, Seattle Public Schools.

Jones, at a press conference, said: “We’re heartbroken.” “We’re working to support the families of both the students and staff.”
