A Pierce County sheriff’s deputy pulled an injured mail truck driver from a burning vehicle following a serious collision in Parkland, Washington, on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:10 p.m. when a mail truck collided with a white sedan in the community located roughly 40 miles south of Seattle. The first deputy to arrive at the scene encountered the mail truck already engulfed in flames, according to bodycam footage released by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
The mail truck driver, trapped in the burning vehicle and facing immediate danger from the spreading fire, required urgent assistance. The deputy moved quickly toward the flames and extracted the driver from the wreckage, pulling him to a safe distance from the burning truck.
A civilian witness to the rescue then joined the deputy in attempting to extinguish the blaze. Despite their efforts, the pair could not fully suppress the fire before firefighters arrived on scene to complete the task.
The collision resulted in serious injuries to two individuals. The mail truck driver and a male passenger who had been riding in the rear seat of the sedan both sustained significant injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Officials have not yet released information regarding the current condition of either victim or provided detailed assessments of their injuries.
The white sedan sustained considerable damage to its rear section. Footage from the scene showed the vehicle’s back bumper and trunk area severely crumpled from the impact.
Authorities have not disclosed what caused the collision. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
The incident serves as another reminder of the split-second decisions law enforcement officers must make in emergency situations. The deputy’s swift action in approaching a vehicle actively burning and extracting an injured person demonstrates the risks these public servants accept as part of their duties.
