President Donald Trump praised the House for passing a bill that would keep the federal government running. He called it “a big win” in America.
Tuesday night, the House approved funding for the measure mainly along party lines. Now, the legislation will be sent to the Senate, where it must be passed before Friday, or a partial shutdown of the government could occur.
Trump posted on Truth Social Tuesday night that Republicans and America had won a big victory. Congratulations to ALL!
This funding bill extends the funding levels that were approved in the fiscal year 2024 by way of continuing resolutions (CRs) passed by Congress until September 30.

The resolution does include some changes in funding, such as an increase of $8 billion for defense, $6 billion for veterans’ healthcare, and $1 billion towards deportations by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. This measure cuts non-defense expenditures by $13 billion.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) broke from his Republican party to vote against the measure on Tuesday night, and Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) also split, voting for the measure.
Rand Paul (R-Ky.) has announced that he will vote against this measure because it does not do enough to reduce government spending. The bill must, therefore, receive at least 8 Democratic votes to reach the 60 vote threshold.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said to reporters on Tuesday that Trump had urged all Republicans in the House of Representatives to support the continuing resolution. She warned that voting against the measure would stop the progress made by the Trump Administration.
“He is encouraging all Republicans to vote yes on this clean CR, which freezes funding at current levels and will prevent the Democrats from getting their long-awaited government shutdown,” Leavitt said Tuesday. “Voting against this CR will hurt the American people and kill the incredible momentum that President Trump has built over the past 51 days.”
On Monday night, the House Rules Committee approved the bill.
