On Wednesday, President Joe Biden welcomed President-elect Donald Trump to the White House. The event was meant to start a smooth power transition following a controversial election that culminated with Trump’s win over Vice President Kamala Harris.
The video footage shows the first part of the conversation with the men sitting near a fireplace. Biden expressed a desire to facilitate an orderly transfer of power. Biden said., “Well, Mr. President-elect and former President, Donald, congratulations.”
“We look forward to a smooth transition, as we have said. We will do everything possible to accommodate you and provide you with what you require. Today, we’ll have a chance to discuss some of these issues.”
Trump replied by thanking Biden. He said that politics is difficult and in many cases not very pleasant, but today it is nice. He promised a smooth transition.
The meeting is Trump’s first trip to the White House after he left in January 2021, following another controversial election. Karine Jean Pierre, White House Press Secretary, said that the meeting was a good example of the president’s respect towards democratic norms. She told ABC News that the meeting was important, not only because it was important for him but also because it was important for the American people. The American people deserve it. They deserve a peaceful transition of power. They deserve a smooth transfer of power. “And that’s exactly what you will see.”
Trump is making his first White House visit since he left office in January 2020, and it’s a contentious one. He broke the tradition by not inviting then-President Biden to the White House. Trump also missed Biden’s inauguration.
Jill Biden, the First Lady, was also in attendance. She welcomed Trump and gave him a letter that he could give to Melania Trump who wasn’t present.
