Because it’s going to increase fuel supply during peak driving season and, by definition, lower costs.
The biofuel industry and corn farmers stand to benefit from this decision. Now, the left might argue that this is just another example of “evil corporations” profiting, but here’s where their logic breaks down. If we have more domestic fuel production, we’re less reliant on foreign oil. That’s called energy independence, folks. It’s a fundamental principle of national security that the left conveniently ignores when it doesn’t fit their narrative.
The EPA has issued similar waivers in recent years, and guess what? The world didn’t end. The idea that this waiver will cause some sort of environmental apocalypse is absurd on its face. The biofuel industry has argued that concerns over smog are unfounded. And let’s say, for the sake of argument, that there is a slight increase in emissions. We have to weigh that against the economic benefits and energy security this provides. It’s called a cost-benefit analysis, something the left seems incapable of performing.
This move is likely to drive down gas prices. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins stated it will “provide immediate relief to consumers.” The data clearly shows that when you increase supply, prices tend to decrease. That’s basic economics, folks. But the left would rather virtue signal about climate change than address the very real economic pressures facing American families.
