A suspect is currently at large following the theft of a 35,000-pound fire engine in Everett, Washington. The individual subsequently went on a rampage, colliding with more than a dozen parked vehicles before abandoning the emergency vehicle and fleeing on foot. The incident began while the fire crew was responding to a medical emergency on the fifth floor of a nearby building. In a statement, Everett Police Chief John DeRousse expressed concern for the safety of first responders and community members, emphasizing the importance of bringing the suspect to justice.
The theft transpired shortly after 11 p.m. on Friday in the 2900 block of Hoyt Avenue. Firefighters returning from their call found their 2018 Pierce Enforcer Pumper truck missing. Around the same time, the first of several 911 calls was made, reporting a fire engine colliding with parked vehicles and fleeing the scene.
The stolen fire engine caused significant damage to at least 16 vehicles, as well as trees and a street sign. The engine itself also sustained substantial damage and is currently out of service. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
Everett Fire Chief Dave DeMarco said, “The department is actively reviewing the incident and examining their protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
