Jimmie Ward, the 33-year-old safety for the Houston Texans, was arrested at his residence in Texas this Thursday on a family violence felony assault charge, according to reliable sources within the authorities.
Reports from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office indicate that the arrest was made following an incident in Ward’s home in Magnolia, Texas. The charge in question, assault family violence, is classified as a third-degree felony as per Texas law.
An NFL spokesman has acknowledged awareness of the situation and has stated that they are in touch with the club, but has refrained from further comment. The evidence suggests that the local sheriff’s deputies responded to an assault report at a Magnolia subdivision home just after 4:30 a.m. According to the sheriff’s office, the victim, Ward’s fiancée, alleges that Ward assaulted, strangled, and threatened her, leading her to file for an emergency protective order.
This development follows earlier reports that as of Thursday afternoon, Ward had posted a $30,000 bail, according to Montgomery County Jail records.
Ward, during his time with the Texans over the last two seasons, played 20 games, recording three interceptions and one touchdown. The Houston Texans’ senior director of communications, Omar Majzoub, has confirmed awareness of the report involving Ward, stating that further information is being gathered.

Ward concluded the 2024 season on injured reserve for the second consecutive year. He underwent a season-ending foot surgery following a game injury. Before this, in 2023, the Texans had again placed Ward on injured reserve due to hip and hamstring injuries.
The Houston Texans signed Ward to a two-year contract in March 2023, worth $13 million, with $8.50 million guaranteed and a $4 million signing bonus. In August of the following year, Ward’s contract was extended for one more year at $10.5 million, including $8.75 million guaranteed and a $5.25 million signing bonus. This raises important questions about the future of his career, as the upcoming season is to be Ward’s last under contract before he becomes eligible to be a free agent in 2026.
