According to a scoop by Axios, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is proposing legislation that would require President Donald Trump’s Cabinet to undergo security training.

Schumer and other Senate Democrats are trying to capitalise on the Signal Messaging flap. Jeffrey Goldberg is the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, a veteran Israeli soldier who gained access to the Signal Messaging group created by Mike Waltz, the national security adviser.

The Operational Security Act of 2025 would create a new office that would train officials in the administration on security protocols and identify counterintelligence operations. The bill also created a board that would be appointed by Congress to oversee best practices.

Schumer stated in a press release, “Expert help from outside is needed so the administration can learn the proper way of handling classified information, identify and mitigate threats.”

Democrats are looking to improve their political standing.

Sens. Adam Schiff from California and Andy Kim from New Jersey will be co-sponsors of the bill.
