Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie announced Monday that he has remarried, more than a year after the death of his wife of 31 years.
The Republican representative revealed that he and Carolyn Grace Moffa were legally married on October 19 in Kentucky, with a celebration ceremony held this past weekend in Pennsylvania attended by family, friends, and several congressional colleagues.
Massie, who is currently facing a primary challenge backed by former President Donald Trump, shared the news through social media, describing how he and his new wife first became acquainted more than a decade ago through their work in Washington.
“Carolyn Grace Moffa and I first met professionally over a decade ago when she worked for Senator Rand Paul,” Massie explained. Moffa served as the senator’s agricultural policy staffer until 2016, where she focused on health and nutrition issues. The congressman noted that she had previously visited him and his late wife Rhonda at their grass-fed cattle farm in Kentucky.
The wedding festivities reflected both Massie’s political connections and his well-known advocacy for agricultural freedom. Among the attendees were Senator Rand Paul and Representatives Jim Jordan, Warren Davidson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Victoria Spartz. The celebration featured raw milk served alongside wedding cake and margaritas made with frozen peaches from the congressman’s farm.
Massie’s three grandchildren played a prominent role in the ceremony, with his oldest grandson serving as ring bearer. The congressman revealed that he proposed to Moffa on the steps of the Library of Congress, the location of their first date.
The announcement comes as Massie seeks re-election while navigating a contested primary. The libertarian-leaning congressman has often broken with party leadership on various issues, earning him both devoted supporters and critics within Republican ranks. His current primary challenger has received backing from Trump, adding another dimension to what promises to be a closely watched race.
Massie’s late wife Rhonda passed away unexpectedly last year, a loss the congressman has spoken about publicly. In his announcement, he acknowledged the continuing impact of that loss while looking toward the future.
“I have four adult children, who are all married to wonderful people, and three grandchildren from my blessed 31 year marriage to Rhonda who I still miss every day,” Massie wrote.
The congressman has not previously been married before his marriage to Rhonda, and Moffa has not been previously married.
Massie concluded his announcement by requesting prayers as his new wife joins him in public life. “Please pray for us as Carolyn steps into the arena with me. With her support, I look forward to continuing my fight for freedom for the great people of Kentucky,” he stated.
The wedding marks a new chapter for the Kentucky representative as he continues his congressional career representing the state’s Fourth District.
